Jeremy Clarkson apologizes to Meghan Markle for hate column: ‘I totally messed it up’ | show

Columnist Jeremy Clarkson has apologized to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for a column he wrote in The Sun. In it he said, among other things, that he ‘hated’ Markle. On Instagram, he shares an extensive message in which he says that afterwards he “couldn’t believe he wrote that.”

On Christmas Day, Clarkson sent an email to the British royals to apologize. In it, the former Top Gearpresenter said his language in the column was “shameful” and he was “deeply sorry.” Also The Sun apologized for the column.

In it, Clarkson wrote that he lay in bed “dreaming of the day when she must parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowd shouts ‘shame on you!’ shouts and throws chunks of feces at her.’ A record number of complaints followed to the British press watchdog. The Sun took the column offline. Clarkson says he was thinking about the scene while writing his column Game of Thronesbut forgot to write it down. “So it seemed like I was really calling for disgusting violence against Meghan.”

In a long Instagram post, the columnist writes that he was alone at home ‘on that fateful day’. So when I was done I just hit send. And when the column appeared the next day, the land mine exploded. It was a slow rumbling to begin with and I ignored it. But then the rumbling got louder.’

So I bought a copy of The Sun to see what all the fuss was about. We’ve all been there, I think. Right at that moment when we realize we’ve completely messed up. You are sweaty and cold at the same time. And your head is pounding. And you feel sick. I couldn’t believe what I read. Did I really say that? It was horrible.’

Whether Clarkson has also had a reaction from the couple, he does not write. Harry said last week in an interview with the British channel ITV that he did not think the column was possible. “What he said was not only terrible and hurtful to my wife, but it also makes people, especially men, think that it is acceptable to treat women in this way,” he said.
