Jerandi talks to his Egyptian and Serbian counterparts in New York


The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi met on Tuesday in New York on the occasion of his participation in the high-level general debate of the 76th session of the Assembly General of the United Nations (20-27 September), with his Egyptian and Serbian counterparts, Samah Choukri and Nikola Selakovic.

According to a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs, the relations of fraternity and cooperation between Tunisia and Egypt were at the center of the meeting between Jerandi and his Egyptian counterpart. The two ministers underlined the commitment of the leaders of the two countries to promote bilateral relations in the interest of the two brotherly peoples.

The meeting was also an opportunity to address the main issues that arise in the Arab and African region within the framework of Tunisia’s mandate as a non-permanent member of the Security Council. Jerandi evoked, in this sense, the question of the Ethiopian Renaissance dam, after the successful efforts of Tunisia for the unanimous adoption of the presidential declaration of the Security Council concerning this affair.

The meeting between Jerandi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia focused on the distinguished relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, as well as the means of strengthening them, in particular through the upcoming high-level meeting of the Joint Committee. and the strengthening of political consultations between the two countries.

The Minister welcomed the invitation addressed to Tunisia to participate in the summit of non-aligned countries to be held in October 2021, in the capital of Serbia, Belgrade.

For his part, the head of Serbian diplomacy confirmed his country’s participation in the XVIII Francophonie Summit to be held in November 2021, in Djerba.
