Jepara (ANTARA) – The Jepara Regency Health Service, Central Java, invites the public to carry out a quality movement to eradicate mosquito nests (PSN), in order to reduce the spread of the dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) virus, cases of which are currently increasingly widespread.
“The PSN movement doesn’t just have to be on Friday mornings, by cleaning yards and gutters, but ensuring that places that have the potential to hold water are also ensured that there are no mosquito larvae,” said Daily Executive (Plh) Head of the Jepara Regency Health Office, Eko Cahyo Puspeno in Jepara, Monday .
According to him, the PSN movement is carried out at least once a week, on days according to each resident’s ability, to ensure that their home environment is free from mosquito larvae, especially those that carry the dengue virus.
The existence of circular letters from each village government regarding the PSN movement, he said, needs to be monitored, to ensure that the community actually does it or not.

For people who still have bathtubs or water reservoirs, he asked that they be drained periodically, close the water reservoirs, and bury used items that have the potential to hold rainwater so that they do not become breeding grounds for mosquito larvae that may carry the dengue virus.
“You need to remember that mosquito eggs in dry places can last up to six months. So when it rains they will hatch and become mosquitoes that have the potential to spread dengue fever,” he said.
Meanwhile, the peak time for mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus to bite, he said, is in the morning between 07.00 – 10.00 WIB, while in the afternoon around 15.00 WIB. So everyone should be alert, including those in the school environment.
With the assistance of anti-mosquito lotion from PMI to schools, it should also be used to anticipate mosquito bites when children are taking part in the teaching and learning process at school.
“Mosquitoes that carry the dengue virus can bite at any time, but peak times are during these hours. After biting, they will look for a dark place or if there are clothes hangers in the house they will use them as a hiding place, so make sure there are no clothes hangers,” he said.

Apart from holding quality PSN, he also invited each house to have someone tasked with monitoring larvae in their home environment, monitoring them at least once a week. Especially those with bathtubs, flower vases, used tires and recycled ecobrick waste.
As a result of previous monitoring of hundreds of houses, it turned out that the Jepara Health Office still found mosquito larvae nesting in residents’ homes.
“The mosquito larvae-free rate should be 95 percent, but in reality it is only 36 to 40 percent, so it needs to be increased so that dengue cases can be reduced,” he said.
Meanwhile, the total number of dengue fever cases in Jepara Regency as of March 9 2024 was 1,227 cases with 177 cases of dengue fever, 1,030 cases of dengue fever (DD), and 20 deaths.
