Jens Stoltenberg: – Trump sting after Biden meeting

WASHINGTON / OSLO (Dagbladet): Stoltenberg has previously mentioned collaboration with Donald Trump as four demanding years. After the meeting with Joe Biden, he repeated the criticism.

– There is nothing to hide that there was disagreement, that we had some demanding rounds. But we also saw that the organization stood firm, and could handle such challenges as President Trump and stand through disagreements and difficulties, Stoltenberg explained to the Norwegian press in Washington.

– President Trump called you his biggest fan, are you an even bigger fan of Biden?

– I have a very good collaboration with President Biden. Then I am very concerned that NATO cooperation affects individuals, Stoltenberg answered briefly to Dagbladet’s question, where he avoided commenting on the Trump element.

Following Trump’s proposal in 2020 Stoltenberg refused to respond to the proposal.

But the NATO chief did not hide that he expects better cooperation now that Trump has finished as president.

“It is good that we have a president in the United States who is not only for NATO, but who knows NATO as an organization well,” said Stoltenberg.

He also eased the veil on the mood of the meeting.

– It was a good tone, a lot of seriousness, but also good humor and fun. He knows both the United States and Europeans. That’s good for NATO.

Stoltenberg has also posted a tweet and an Instagram story from inside the meeting:

Earlier Monday night, Biden met with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin in the Pentagon building outside Washington, DC.

After the meeting with Biden tonight, Stoltenberg will meet Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan.

It does not take long before Stoltenberg meets Biden again. In just one week, NATO’s annual summit will begin. This time, as in previous years, the meeting will take place in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, where NATO headquarters are located.

Just a few days later, Biden will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time as US president.
