Eisenach/Berlin (MH) – The director of the Meiningen State Theater and the Eisenach State Theater, Jens Neundorff von Enzberg, will remain in office for five more years. On Saturday he signed the extension of his contract until July 31, 2031. With this and with financing agreements between both houses for the years 2025 to 2032, “the state government and the municipalities are sending a signal of recognition, stability and ensuring the quality of the offer at both locations,” said Thuringia’s State Secretary for Culture Tina Beer.
The Illmenau native (born in 1966) took over from Ansgar Haag in the 2021/22 season, whose directorship had expired after 16 seasons. It was clear to him “that this would be a bigger challenge,” he now explained and praised the commitment of those responsible at the state, district and city level to the theater landscape: “Which country in the Federal Republic – other than the Free State of Thuringia – creates planning security for nearly ten years through a long-term financing agreement for its theaters?” He is looking forward to being able to continue to shape the future of the two theaters.
Neundorff von Enzberg worked as a dramaturg in Meiningen from 1992 to 1996. He then became a dramaturge at the Semperoper Dresden. From 2000 to 2007 he was chief dramaturg for musical theater and member of the artistic management of the Bonn Theater. He then worked as an opera director and music theater dramaturge at the Braunschweig State Theater. From 2012 to 2021 he was artistic director at the Regensburg Theater.
