American actress and singer Jennifer Lopez currently enjoys a supposedly healthy marriage with Hollywood actor Ben Affleck, but before reaching this point, she had to go a long way.
In his new documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Toldthe ‘Diva of the Bronx’ opened up about her life, and what the years were like between her first separation from Affleck, in 2004, and their magical reunion 17 years later, in 2021.
The documentary is part of a three-part audiovisual project that also includes This Is Me Now: A Love Storya surreal film that, like a long music video, covers the singer’s life starting from her love failures.
But although the film could make it seem comical, there are quite serious episodes in JLo’s life, and in the aforementioned documentary, the New York native pointed out that she suffered violence from her romantic partners.
The 54-year-old artist revealed that although she never suffered physical violence, she did suffer abuse from some of her past partners, for “other unpleasant things.”
“I mean, I was never in a relationship where I was hit, thank God… But I’ve definitely been abused and (suffered) a couple of other nasty… gross… disrespectful things,” Jenn confessed to the cameras.
Even in non-violent moments, the businesswoman also went through unpleasant situations, which, she says, taught her about loyalty and commitment, and what she really wanted in a relationship.
“I’ve encountered people in my life who told me, ‘I love you,’ and then didn’t do things that were in line with the word love,” he added.
In López’s words, it was extremely difficult for her to leave that toxic environment, mentioning that everything happened when she felt she hit rock bottom.
“You have to hit rock bottom, where you find yourself in situations that are so uncomfortable and painful that you finally say, ‘I don’t want this anymore,’” he said.
The singer took the opportunity to mention that to get out of these bad relationships, the help of specialists was necessary, to live a moment in which “A therapist asked me: ‘What if I were your daughter?’ What would you do?’. And it was so clear. She would tell him: ‘Get out of here and don’t look back.’”
Among the good things, Jennifer mentions that it was thanks to this that she was able to make the decision to leave abusive relationships behind, because, “for me it was so clouded and so complicated with so much of my past and my own pain and hurt and dysfunction, which I couldn’t see clearly. “It was like looking through a fog.”
Now, the actress and singer enjoys a good marriage, or so she has let it be known through both films, so it is expected that this will be her definitive husband, after six engagements and four divorces.
