After months of making headlines about her separation, singer and actress Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from her husband Ben Affleck after two years of marriage.

According to the entertainment website TMZ, the Puerto Rican-American filed documents requesting a divorce on Tuesday in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County (California, USA).

She points out that the ‘diva of the Bronx’ did not submit the documents through a lawyer but did the paperwork herself.

According to the website, Lopez established in the legal document the date of her separation from her partner on April 26, a little more than a week before the May 6 Gala at the Metropolitan Museum, which she attended alone, giving rise to rumors about her marriage.

The last public event they attended together was a Los Angeles Lakers game on March 16.

In fact, there was no celebration on their second wedding anniversary last July because they were already separated, which apparently happened in May when it was reported that the actor and director had left the $60 million residence he shared with Lopez.

According to reports, Affleck allegedly prefers a quiet life, away from the media, while his wife enjoys media attention.

After leaving home, Affleck rented a property near where his children with actress Jennifer Garner live, from where he continued working on his projects and later bought a house.

While Lopez focused on her children Max and Emme, whom she had with singer Mark Anthony, she traveled with them to Japan and spent the summer in the Hamptons in New York where she celebrated her birthday in style, without the presence of her husband and attending concerts and fashion events.

Lopez and Affleck met while filming Gigli in early 2002, but she was married to her second husband, dancer Cris Judd, from whom she filed for divorce in July 2002.

The celebrity couple became involved in a relationship that year but days before they were due to tie the knot in September 2003, they postponed the wedding, blaming “excessive media attention.”

A few months later, in January 2004, they called off the engagement and split up, TMZ recalls.
