Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are divorcing after just over two years of marriage. Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday, August 20, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Variety confirms.
The official date of separation is listed as April 26.
Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, met on set in 2003. They were briefly engaged, and 20 years later they reunited and got married.
This is the fourth marriage for Lopez and the second for two-time Oscar winner Ben Affleck.
Lopez and Affleck made two films together: Martin Brest’s romantic film Gigli in 2003 and Kevin Smith’s comedy Jersey Girl in 2004. By the time the latter film was released, Lopez and Affleck had called off their engagement .
Both married and divorced in the following years – Lopez with Marc Anthony, Affleck with Jennifer Garner.
The two then began a public relationship again about three years ago. Lopez provides frequent updates on her engagement and eventual marriage to her fans through her social media presence and newsletter.
Lopez took particular note of her relationship on her latest album, This Is Me … Now, a follow-up to her 2002 album This Is Me … Then, which was also about her relationship with Affleck at the time.
In May, Lopez canceled her “This Is Me… Now” summer tour with a statement that read, “Jennifer is taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends.”
