In a comprehensive interview with the magazine Vanity Fair tells actress Jennifer Lawrence (31) about a near-death experience in a private plane in 2017. Lawrence was flying from her hometown in Kentucky to New York when the pressure in the cabin changed.
She and the other passengers were startled when the message from the cockpit came: One engine had stopped working. The pilots assured that they could make a safe emergency landing with the last engine, but then the plane became completely silent.
“My skeleton was all that was left in that seat,” says Lawrence.
The other engine had also stopped, and the plane was on its way down at high speed.
– I recorded voice messages to my family, she says.
Down on the runway she could see fire trucks and ambulances ready. Then the plane hit the ground hard and jumped up again before hitting the ground again. Then the emergency services broke open the door and helped unharmed passengers out. The incident has affected her in retrospect.
“It made me weaker,” says Lawrence.
Nervous to step into the spotlight
Lawrence is currently working on the Netflix movie “Don’t Look Up”, which premieres in December. Lately she has had a break from the limelight.
– I did not pump out the quality I should have done. I just think everyone was tired of me. I had gotten tired of myself, she says.
In September, it became known that she was expecting her first child with her husband Cooke Maroney. The two got married in secret in 2019. Now she thinks it’s a little scary to be a topic in public again.
– I’m so nervous. I’ve not talked to the world in ages. And to come back now, that I have so much new in my life, that I obviously want to protect.
She refuses to say anything about her thoughts on becoming a mother and says she does not want that part of life with the public.
– Every instinct in my body wants to protect their privacy for the rest of their lives, to the extent I can. I do not want anyone to feel welcome in their existence. I feel it starts with not including them in this part of my job, she explains.
Nude photos on the go
In 2014, hackers leaked hundreds of nude photos of several celebrities in Hollywood. The hackers pretended to be an Apple employee to access iCloud accounts with photos.
Lawrence was one of the first and most famous names to be listed, and the actor’s spokesman confirmed early on that the pictures were real.
– Anyone can go and look at my naked body without my consent, at any time of the day. Someone in France just published the pictures. My trauma will exist forever, says Lawrence in the Vanity interview.
Following the leak in 20114, Lawrence made a statement through his spokesperson:
– It’s not a scandal, it’s a sex crime.
Four men were convicted in the case.
