We can always count on Jennifer Garner to find the silver lining.
In 2015, a day after their 10th wedding anniversary, Garner and Ben Affleck announced their divorce. A year later, Garner told Vanity Fair that she “lost the dream of dancing with (her) husband at (her) daughter’s wedding.”
But time heals all wounds. The veteran actor and star of the new “Yes Day” movie has a new perspective these days.
“When our kids get married we’ll dance, I know that now,” the 48-year-old mother of three said in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re going to boogaloo and have a good time. I don’t worry about it anymore. “
Garner and Affleck have co-parented their three children, Violet, 15, Seraphina, 12, and Samuel, 9, since their split.
“When they were smaller and there were things out there that were shocking, my request to them was always, ‘Let daddy and me talk to you about anything’,” she said, referring to the intense speculation about Affleck’s infidelities. “I would say to them, ‘If you see a picture on the front of a magazine, I’ll look at it with you and we’ll deal with all the scary feelings that come up.’ “
Garner has kept his children a secret and has remained largely offline due to a long-standing issue with the paparazzi.
“We lived on a street full of actors, much more successful, famous and decorated than me, including Ben, and they all passed one by one, no problem, then I would go there for a school run and there would be 15 cars that would go with me, ”she said of her early years of stardom. down the pool man’s truck or something, then a nanny would see me there and call a number and they were swarming. ”
Garner noted in the interview that she didn’t have family photos because her kids were always so scared of cameras.
In 2013, Garner was integral to passing a bill to protect celebrity children by testifying before the California State Assembly Public Safety Committee alongside her fellow actress and mom Halle Berry.
The actor said that although she accepted a public life, her children did not make this choice. Violet, a kindergarten at the time, joined her mother in testifying.
“Violet is hyper-articulate – she’s the daughter of Ben Affleck,” Garner told The Hollywood Reporter. “And she got up on a chair in a little velvet dress, her hair a little back and her glasses on and she didn’t say her R was right, and she said, ‘We didn’t. not asked that. We don’t. ”I want these cameras, they’re scary. Men are scary, they hit each other and it’s hard to feel like a kid when you’re being chased. ”
