Jennifer Garner is in talks to join her ex-husband, Ben Affleck, in his upcoming Netflix crime thriller, “Animals.” The actress, who was married to Affleck for 13 years, is negotiating to star alongside Matt Damon in the film. Affleck will be directing the feature and producing it with Damon through their Artists Equity banner, along with Dani Bernfeld from the company. Brad Weston and Collin Creighton from MakeReady are also producing.
The crime thriller, written by Connor McIntyre with revisions by Billy Ray, revolves around a mayoral candidate and his wife whose son gets kidnapped. Faced with numerous enemies, both political and otherwise, the couple is forced to take matters into their own hands to rescue their child. Garner would play the role of the wife, while Damon takes on the character of the candidate.
If all the pieces fall into place, “Animals” could begin filming in Los Angeles in March. Garner’s involvement is still being finalized, but her addition to the cast would certainly add to the anticipation surrounding the project.
Garner’s versatility as an actress has been showcased in a variety of genres, including comedies, rom-coms, and thrillers. She has become a favorite on Netflix, having starred or co-starred in successful projects such as “Family Switch,” “The Adam Project,” and “Yes Day.”
Interestingly, Garner and Affleck have previously acted together in three films before their marriage in 2005: “Pearl Harbor” (2001), “Daredevil” (2003), and its spinoff “Elektra” (2005). However, this would be the first time that Affleck directs Garner.
Although Garner and Affleck divorced in 2018, their professional collaboration seems to be unaffected by their personal relationship. Garner is represented by CAA and Sloane Offer.
With the potential reunion of Garner and Affleck on the big screen, “Animals” is shaping up to be a highly anticipated crime thriller. Fans of the former couple and movie enthusiasts alike will be eagerly awaiting more updates on this exciting project.
