American tennis star Jennifer Brady reveals she’s a big Rafael Nadal fan and she’s delighted the Spaniard became the first player to win a record 21st Grand Slam title. Djokovic won the first three Grand Slams of the 2021 season to tie Nadal and Roger Federer on the all-time Grand Slam record list of 20 Majors.
Djokovic didn’t get a chance to play at this year’s Australian Open and Nadal made the most of it as he won a record 21st Grand Slam. “I know it’s hard to believe. Everyone would have thought that maybe Novak would be the first of 21 (Slams) but I’m glad it’s Rafa, I’m a big Rafa fan.
I absolutely adore him and he is my idol. So I’m happy to see him playing in Acapulco,” Brady said on Tennis Channel.
Djokovic on the Australian Open
Nadal bounced back from a two-set deficit in the Australian Open final to beat Daniil Medvedev.
“It wasn’t easy for me to see the final, I had to stay at home due to the circumstances, although I didn’t want to see it. My wife and son watched. I didn’t see the whole match, we also did other things in the house.
I was neutral – whoever won, I lost, right? (Laugh). I didn’t want to get too emotionally involved, I wanted to be on the pitch,” Djokovic told RTS. Djokovic remained respectful when asked if the Australian Open draw result would have been different with him.
“Nothing in life is guaranteed but with that in mind I saw my chances in Australia this year. I feel like I’m in my backyard at Rod Laver Arena. Out of respect for Rafael Nadal who won and for all the other players, I don’t dare say that I would have won, but I think I had good chances,” Djokovic said.
