Jennifer Aniston believes that “humor is essential” ahead of the premiere of her new comedy film.

American actress Jennifer Aniston believes that “the world needs humor”, days before Netflix releases the comedy “Murder Mystery 2”, in which she stars alongside Adam Sandler, and brings together actors of different nationalities.

Aniston said during a panel discussion in Paris about the film, “Comedy has evolved and films have changed, and therefore the matter has become somewhat accurate and it is necessary to be very careful, which makes things difficult for the actors. The sweetness of comedy lies in a person laughing at himself and at life.”

“The world needs humor! We shouldn’t take things so seriously, especially in the US where everyone is divided,” she adds.

And she confirms that a scenario such as the famous “Friends” series, which achieved great success in the nineties of the last century, and Aniston gained wide fame thanks to it, will not be possible with the same details now.

“There’s a whole new generation, kids who are watching “Friends” episodes now find them offensive,” she added, referring to the “WOK” wave, that is, vigilance against racial abuse and discrimination.

And she notes with a sigh that everyone in these times “always finds something offensive,” bearing in mind that the series “Friends” dealt with sensitive topics such as homosexuality in an open, understanding and humorous manner.

She acknowledges that the “Friends” script included “unintended” details, and others that should have been thought through more, but recalls that the atmosphere at the time was not “as sensitive as it is today.”

As for Adam Sandler, he says with a joking tone, “You know what else changed in comedy? The clothes!” And he addressed Aniston by saying, “Remember when we started in the comedy field? They want us to look amazing, and the effort we have to put in is too much.”

Two confused Americans

In Murder Mystery 2, Sandler and Aniston don’t just dress up as tourists, they act like awkward Americans.

Aniston commented, “This is the movie’s formula: being like two fish out of water.”

Murder Mystery, whose first installment became a hit on Netflix when it premiered in 2019, follows the adventures of a cop who receives unexpected help from his hairdresser wife to solve a case.

In the second part, the couple establishes a detective agency whose situation is deteriorating, until their millionaire Maharaja friend (played by British actor Adeel Akhtar) is kidnapped, allowing them to travel to the French capital, Paris, and start new adventures.

Aniston and Sandler may appear on screen as awkward Americans, but no details escaped them when it came to producing the film, according to the French actors Danny Bon and Melanie Laurent, who participated in the work.

“There are actors who master the script during filming,” says Danny Boone, who embodies the character of a French policeman. “Sometimes I receive a script at ten o’clock in the evening, and filming is scheduled for the next day (…) Working on it and mastering it is better than repeating filming scenes.”

As for Melanie Laurent, she says, “Sometimes, when we film works alongside prominent American actors, we are afraid of feeling disappointed. But they are very nice and work with them is an addition to us.”
