Jennie BLACKPINK’s appearance in the series The Idol drew debate from Korean netizens. The series that marked his acting debut was deemed too vulgar.
On Monday (22/5/2023), Jennie BLACKPINK attended the premiere of The Idol at the Cannes Film Festival. A number of Korean netizens started exploring the Hollywood series and not a few were surprised after seeing the many hot scenes.
As a result, The Idol series, starring Jennie BLACKPINK, became a hot topic in Korean community forums. A number of Korean netizens explained that the storyline was completely overhauled after the departure of director Amy Seimetz from the production team.
According to the narrative of The Idol crew to Rolling Stones, Sam Levinson took over production when filming was almost complete. But he showed more profanity, than his popular series Euphoria, which starred Zendaya.
“I heard that the director and the serial scenario have completely changed. So basically the players were tricked,” explained a Korean netizen defending Jennie BLACKPINK.
After learning about this, Korean netizens questioned the reason why Jennie BLACKPINK continued to star in The Idol after it was remodeled to make it obscene.
“I wonder why Jennie chose to appear in this series. Looks like she doesn’t need it or something,” commented a Korean netizen.
“So Jennie chose to appear after knowing the synopsis of the series? I heard she was tricked, why are people lying?” said a netizen.
“Jennie shot for her appearance as a cameo, but then it was changed without her knowledge, and it has been changed from the original content,” said another netizen.
Jennie BLACKPINK Becomes a Victim of Exploitation
Previously, Jennie BLACKPINK was accused of being a victim of the exploitation of The Idol production team. From the results of Rolling Stones’ interviews with 13 cast and crew, it was revealed that Jennie was deliberately featured in the teaser to increase popularity.
The BLACKPINK personnel got a short dialogue and their job was only to ‘sit pretty’.
“He only speaks about three to four lines per episode. They don’t let him talk that much. His job is to sit there and look pretty, basically,” said the representative for The Idol production team.
Synopsis The Idol follows the story of Jocelyn (playing Lily Rose-Depp), a popstar who cancels her tour after having a nervous breakdown. She begins a complicated relationship with Tedros (player of The Weeknd), a meditation teacher and leader of a cult. BLACKPINK’s Jennie plays Dyanne, Jocelyn’s backup dancer.
