We must recognize the value of Jenni Hermoso, being able to welcome the new year at a party, with her family, or in my very glamorous style: eating pizza in pajamas with friends, she has chosen to ring the bell with Ramón García and Ana Mena. I appeal to courage not because they are bad company or because of the cold that they say is felt in that setting, but rather because when she accepted TVE’s proposal she knew what was coming to her. Her name has been announced and the guardians of the essences of misogyny have not had time to express their disagreement with the choice.
Hermoso is questioned about her merits to be on that balcony, it seems that having won a World Cup, being the national team’s all-time top scorer and the only player along with Alexia Putellas who has worn the Red in more than 100 games are trifles. I doubt that the same ones who today tear their virtual clothes would have put a but at the time when going out to the balcony of Casillas, Puyol or Capdevila – we must never forget the man who taught us to dance with a cubata on your shoulder—whose merits were similar. What really mortifies them is that the forward has become a symbol against sexism—an involuntary symbol, who would want to be one voluntarily—after being harassed by a pichabrava boss live and in front of millions of viewers. A crime that turned into a farce and the subsequent re-victimization, something that is no longer surprising when it comes to sexual crimes. Nor is the bilious overreaction of the carcunda surprising when hearing Hermoso’s name; it only confirms that #seababo still has a long way to go to be a reality and not just a hashtag.
