This is a film adaptation of the science fiction novel Klara and the Sun, which was published in 2021. The book was written by the British author Kazuo Ishiguro, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2017. At the end of 2021, the novel ended up on Barack Obama’s list of his favorite books of the year, among others.

Klara and the Sun is set in a dystopian future where androids are created to support young people in difficult times. The main character of the novel is the artificially created Klara, who is chosen by a sick girl as her new best friend.

When does Taika Waititi’s new sci-fi film start in cinemas?

There is currently no start date for the planned Klara and the Sun adaptation. If filming can begin in 2024, the sci-fi film will not be released in cinemas until 2025 at the earliest. Production is also expected to be heavily dependent on Jenna Ortega’s schedule. The Netflix star will first be in front of the camera for Wednesday Season 2 with a different location.

Taika Waititi’s new film Next Goal Wins will be in cinemas from today, January 4, 2024.
