Many Russians believe that Jelena Isinbayeva betrayed their country.
Olympic hero Svetlana Ishmouratova takes it a step further.
– Apparently something happened in her upbringing as a child, she says to Match TV according to Evening newspaper.
With triple World Cup gold and double Olympic gold in pole vault, Jelena Isinbayeva is one of Russia’s foremost athletes of all time.
After his career, the former athletics star, who set 28 world records, developed a close relationship with Vladimir Putin and rose to a high position in the Russian army.
But in recent years, she has distanced herself from her home country and, among other things, removed all joint pictures with the president.
Today, Isinbayeva lives in Tenerife.
“She likes living in other countries”
The choice to leave Russia has been questioned from many quarters. Now the double Olympic gold medalist in biathlon, Svetlana Ishmouratova, chooses to enter the debate.
– We do not know the whole situation. But Jelena made it clear that she does not support special operations. She likes living in other countries. What if the same thing happens in Spain as in the Middle East? Where does she go then? Monaco? There is no better place than the country of her birth, she says to Match TV according to Evening newspaper.
It was earlier this summer that the former pole vault star’s move to the Canary Island of Tenerife was revealed by the Spanish media. Before that, Isinbayeva had kept a low profile for almost two years and few knew where she lived.
– She is a great athlete, but what an attitude towards the motherland… It is wrong. Apparently something happened in her upbringing as a child. She was not taught to love her homeland, says Ishmouratova.
