Jelena Dokic on the suicide plans – close to jumping from the 26th floor

It’s a candid message that Dokic has published along with a picture of himself crying.

The Australian, who broke through at Wimbledon in 1999 when she knocked out world setter Martina Hingis in the first round, says that she is struggling with her mental health and that a few weeks ago she almost committed suicide.

I almost jumped from my balcony on the 26th floor to take my own life. I will never forget that day “, she writes.

She continues:

“The last six months have been tough. I have been crying constantly and everywhere. I will never forget that day, I just wanted the pain and suffering to end. I pulled myself away from the edge, I do not even know how I succeeded with it “, she writes.

Want to encourage others

With his post, Dokic wants to encourage others who are struggling with their mental health to seek help.

“Professional help saved my life. I’m writing this because I know I’m not the only one struggling. You should know that you are not alone “, she writes.

She continues:

“I can not say that I’m feeling great now, but I’m definitely on my way to a better mood. I will come back stronger than ever. ”

Violent father

Dokic won six WTA titles during his career. But both before and during her career, she was beaten and bullied by her father Damir – something she has told about in the book “Unbreakable”, which came out in 2020.

In the book, the tennis star, who was born in the former Yugoslavia but now lives in Melbourne, Australia, described in detail his father’s violence, before and during his time in the absolute world elite in the early 2000s.
