“Lūši” defeated its principal opponent RTU / “Border Guard” / “Jūrmala” team with the result 3-2 (25:20, 20:25, 16:25, 25:14, 15:13) in the final game.
The winners of the Cup with 22 points were Jānis Medenis, who was also the best player in the block, scoring four points in this element. Ēriks Voroņko scored another 19 points, but Zigurds Adamovičs, Armands Āboliņš and Vladislavs Blumbergs scored 13, 12 and 11 points.
In the ranks of RTU / “Border Guard” / “Jūrmala”, Matīs Gabduļins scored with 24 points, while Jēkabs Dzenis scored 11 points, six of them in the block.
The participants of the men’s final “Lūši” and RTU / “Robežsardze” / “Jūrmala” are the finalists of all the most valuable Latvian trophies of recent times, and the winner is usually determined in five sets of thrillers.
“Lynx” celebrated the victory in the Latvian championship. Also, the residents of Jēkabpils twice this year – in February and September – were better in the Super Cup game, but the Latvian Cup has been held at the RTU / “Border Guard” / “Jūrmala” office since the end of 2019.
The only battle of “Credit24” in the beginning of December this year in Jēkabpils also ended in five sets with the victory of the seafarers – 3-2 (25:23, 25:22, 14:25, 23:25, 15:13).
In the semi-final on Saturday, Jēkabpils “Lūši” defeated “Biolars Jelgava” / MSĢ unit with 3-0 (25:16, 25:15, 25:14), but “Daugavpils University” / “Ezerzeme” team gave in to RTU / “Border Guard” / ” Jūrmala “with 1-3 (24:26, 22:25, 25:22, 19:25).
It has already been reported that in the final match of the women’s tournament “Jelgava” with the result 3-2 (25:20, 23:25, 27:25, 20:25, 15: 8) beat “Riga Stradins University” / “Inguna Minus Volleyball Schools” ( RSU / MVS) command.
In the 2019/2020 season, the winners of the Latvian Cup were Riga RTU / “Border Guard” and women – “Riga Volleyball School”. In 2020/2021, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the winners of the cup remained unclear.
