According to Korea Airports Corporation Jeju Airport on the 22nd, as a lot of snow fell and piled up at the airport, Jeju Airport runway operations were suspended from 8:20 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. that day due to snow removal work.

As the runway at Jeju International Airport was stopped for 2 hours and 30 minutes, 9 flights, including flights from Gimpo, were diverted, and delays in flights to and from Jeju Airport are expected to continue around this time.

A sudden wind warning and a heavy snow and strong wind warning have been issued at Jeju Airport. Currently, 2 cm of snow has fallen, with a cumulative snowfall of 4.4 cm.

Snow removal work is carried out when the airport runway line is not visible to the naked eye.

Pilots need to be able to see runway lines and markings when taking off and landing, but if they are covered in snow, it poses a serious risk to aircraft safety.

According to airport officials, the runway line is generally not visible when there is about 0.5 cm of snow. However, if the runway line is not visible even if 0.1 cm of snow is accumulated according to the Korea Meteorological Administration standard, snow removal work is carried out for safety.
