A Wall Street Journal report came to light on Sunday, revealing that financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019, was enthusiastic about the idea of a Donald Trump presidency, despite having disagreements with him on the 2000s.
Epstein boasted of his closeness to figures in the Trump world and had meetings scheduled with tech billionaire Peter Thiel and Colony Capital founder Thomas Barrack. Following Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton in November of that year, Epstein expressed his delight at the result.
Documents reviewed by The Journal revealed that Epstein was scheduled to meet with Thiel and Barrack in 2016.
As for Barrack, a close ally of the former president and head of Trump’s inauguration committee, Epstein scheduled a meeting with him in August 2016, which Churkin and former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak would also attend. Barrack, who declined to comment to the Journal, he was subsequently invited by Epstein to two separate events in September of that year.
A Trump spokesperson noted that neither Barrack nor Thiel were official members of the 2016 campaign and that Trump had banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago.
In a recent interview with Tucker Carlson, former President Trump shared his views on Epstein’s death: Asked by Carlson if he believed Epstein had committed suicide, Trump replied, “I don’t know,” concluding that it was “possible” that Epstein would have been assassinated, but that he most likely took his own life.
“A lot of people think he was murdered,” Trump continued. “He knew a lot about a lot of people.”
