The statue of the third President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, has been permanently removed from New York City Hall.
Standing over 2.10m tall, the statue, a plaster replica of the original, has been moved to be “put down” at the New York Historical Society headquarters, CNN reported on Wednesday.
The removal of the statue of the founding father of the United States was voted on last month by the New York City public planning commission, according to the American media.
Several American cities have decided to unbolt the statues of controversial rulers because of their past linked to Confederate symbols and slavery.
The original statue of Jefferson, sculpted in 1833, has been enthroned since 1915 in a large hall in New York City Hall.
Several monuments representing the third President of the United States have been vandalized in the wake of the “Black Lives Mater” movement.
