Jeff Bezos to Outer Space, Hardworking Officer Like a Horse

Jakarta

Amazon Founder, Jeff Bezos just got back from outer space. Apparently there are victims of the ambitions of the richest man in the world.

Jeff Bezos can go into space on a New Sheppard rocket from his own company Blue Origin. Money is not a problem for him. His assets are IDR 1,090 trillion and his income is IDR 2.07 million per minute. Unbelieveable!

But behind the success story, there is a dark side that other people rarely know. Jeff Bezos accused of getting rich by forcing his employees to work hard like horses.

The slanted story came out of the mouths of Amazon employees as reported by News.com Australia, which was seen Wednesday (21/7/2021). One of them is the true story of Patty Hernandez (23) who works as an Amazon packager in California, USA.

Patty is in a young pregnancy and is asked by the obstetrician to work more lightly for the sake of the fetus in her womb. His job is to lift a 22 kg package from a conveyor belt for 10 hours a day.

Patty’s request was rejected by her manager and was forced to work hard. As a result in October 2020, Patty had a miscarriage. The case was widely brought up by the media, but Amazon didn’t budge.

After that, there were many stories about how Amazon employees were forced to work hard. Not even permission to go to the toilet is allowed, so many Amazon warehouse employees pee in mineral water bottles, so they don’t have to go to the toilet. The toilet is far away in a large warehouse.

Target work is also outrageous. The Guardian in February 2020 reported a protest by Amazon employees who were targeted to check 30 packages/minute. This means 1 packet every 2 seconds. That’s crazy!

A week after the Patty Hernandez incident, the US Government Accountability Office found that 4,000 Amazon employees across America were relying on social assistance called food stamps. 70% of the 4,000 employees are full-time Amazon employees.

In June 2021, the US tax office revealed that Jeff Bezos did not pay taxes in 2007 and 2011. In fact, he once applied for a $4,000 tax deduction for households earning less than $100,000/year.

When Jeff Bezos prides himself on space travel, may he remember the plight of the thousands of Amazon employees who worked their way up to some point.
