Amazon is known to limit the time its employees go to the bathroom. So most of them have to squeeze or arrange the bottles during delivery. It turns out Jeff Bezos has also banned his personal maid from using the bathroom.
Jeff Bezos’ former head of housekeeping is suing the billionaire for workplace discrimination. According to her, she was forced to step over the window to use the toilets granted to her.
In the lawsuit, filed this week in a Washington state court, the former housekeeper says the domestic staff of the second richest man in the world did not have a legally guaranteed right to meals or bathroom breaks.
Besides, they didn’t have “easily accessible toilet“, to use. If they wanted to go to the bathroom, the cleaning ladies had to climb through the laundry window.
The complaint reveals that the servant was first allowed to use the guard’s bathroom, but soon this was banned due to “security breach issues“.
Consequently, the rulers “often developed urinary tract infections“, which according to them are linked to the impossibility of using the bathroom when they have to work. Meanwhile, the working day was between 10 and 14 hours.
The housekeeper of Latin American origin was not at all informed of her right to leave. She could only have lunch when Bezos or his family weren’t at home.
Bezos, who in addition to owning Amazon also owns the Washington Post, denies the allegations.
“We have reviewed the claims and they are unfoundedHarry Correll, Bezos’ attorney, told Insider.
The case promises to provide a behind-the-scenes look into the home life of one of the most powerful and wealthiest men in the world.
