Jeep Wrangler limits the offer. You will not officially find it in Europe other than as a plug-in hybrid

Wrangler adjusts its offer for model year 2022. In Europe, you will no longer officially buy it with a turbodiesel or a petrol engine.

Fleet emissions continue to affect Europe’s car supply. Manufacturers are increasingly betting on cars with different levels of electrification. The latest proof of the trend is the Jeep Wrangler. The famous offroad on the old continent limits its offer exclusively to plug-in hybrid.

From model year 2022 onwards, the Wrangler will not be able to find a 2.0T four-cylinder petrol engine in Europe or a turbodiesel 2.2 CRD. The only option remains plug-in hybrid derivative 4xe launched on the Czech market this year. He relies on a supercharged two-liter petrol engine with an output of 200 kW, paired with two electric motors. The one with an output of 45 kW serves as a starter-generator and is mounted in the front of the internal combustion engine, the other with 107 kW is then stored in an eight-speed TorqueFlight automatic transmission, where it replaces the classic torque converter. The combined power of this device is 280 kW.

The reason for this solution is, of course, fleet emissions. while in the Wrangler 4xe in the Sahara version CO emissions₂ is 79 g / km according to the combined WLTP cycle, in the version with a two-liter petrol it is 252 g / km. And that’s an incredibly high number at a time when every gram is at stake.

At the same time, the end of the purely petrol and diesel variants means the end of European sales třídveřového Wrangleru. Its compact body is said to not fit a plug-in hybrid system, so its sales in Europe must be stopped altogether due to emissions.

Perhaps the only good news is that the Wrangler’s European specification will have a wider range of models from model year 2022. It will be possible to order a stronger windscreen made of Gorilla Glass from the factory, known for the protective covers of smartphones, the Sunrider Flip Top roof will also be offered with a screen above the front seats and a solid structure at the rear. The range of body colors is also expanding.

Jeep has announced that the first innovated Wrangler model year 2022 will be available in Italy, Spain, Belgium and Serbia. Other markets are to follow. Currently, the Wrangler 4xe model year 2021 is sold on the Czech market for prices starting at 1,675,800 crowns.
