Jeep wants to conquer ground in Europe with its hybrid SUVs

The American brand, which historically achieves 70% of its sales in North America, has a market share limited for the moment to 1.2% in Europe.
It has just launched a new version of its mid-range adapted to the European market, the Compass. It will offer a hybrid version of its Wrangler all-terrain vehicle, and is also preparing a “small Jeep” which could arrive on the European market, the leader said during a roundtable with journalists.

The Wrangler could also soon be entitled to a 100% electric version, a prototype of which was unveiled at the end of March April in the United States.
Launched in 2020, hybrids already represent an important part of Jeep’s sales in Europe, up to more than half for the Compass in France, underlined Christian Meunier.

“There were a lot of doubts internally: will the diehards embrace the electric vehicle?”, he explained. “The answer is yes.
(…) Jeep goes all out in this area. It is not a constraint, it is the future “.

To avoid the fear of battery failure, the automaker has started to develop a network of charging stations in the United States along the routes preferred by 4X4 fans, and is seeking to do the same in Europe.

The American brand has started to break into Italy in recent years, drawing on the strength of its parent company Fiat-Chrysler.
After the latter’s alliance with Peugeot-Citroën, within the Stellantis group, the brand sees new horizons opening up. In France, “we have an opportunity to capitalize on the strength of the group”, underlined Christian Meunier.
