Jean-Yves Larraufie, Director of Cosmétique Active Production (CAP) L’Oréal in Vichy and La Roche-Posay, witnessed the 2020 Allier Company Trophies which take place this Wednesday at the Athanor center in Montlucon.
The 37-year-old returned with great frankness and modesty to his professional career and his work in the L’Oréal factories.
Throughout the interview conducted by the journalist from The mountain, Matthieu Perrinaud, Jean-Yves Larraufie insisted on the importance of believing in the economic potential and the wealth of the Allier and its inhabitants, constantly highlighting local know-how and the strength of the collective.
A passionate man since childhood
Commenting on the images, he explained how his vocation for chemistry came to him by visiting a drinking water plant in the Paris region and meeting fascinating professionals.
Demanding from himself, this grandson of a cleaning lady, a graduate of Polytechnique, wanted to stress the importance of studies and his belief in the social lift.
Meetings that marked him
He then spoke of the meetings that marked his career, including those with Patrick Stefanini, Arnaud Montebourg and Louis Gallois. He insisted on the chance that Barbara Lavernos, general manager of operations at L’Oréal had offered him by sending him to modernize the Creuzier-le-Vieux plant.
“She said to me, ‘Show us what you can do.’ When we give you that chance you can only bounce back!”

A constant focus on the collective
Jean-Yves Larraufie then spoke at length about the CAP L’Oréal factory in Vichy. With enthusiasm, he never ceased to highlight the 500 “colleagues” who work with him. “It is a magnificent watchmaking. Everyone plays their score and I make sure that everyone plays a coherent score”.
Jean-Yves-Larraufie, Director of CAP L’Oréal, great witness to the 2020 Allier Company Trophies
Insisting on the quality of the work accomplished, the young director believes that the challenge today is to make known the quality and the technicality of the Allier territory, to “move from know-how to making it known. We must promote awareness. This because, internally, it makes you proud. There is an attractiveness of talent. “
For him, benevolent management is “to set a framework and give free rein to our employees”.
Solidarity teams during the crisis
When Jean-Yves Larraufie returned to the Covid-19 epidemic, again he proudly highlighted the esprit de corps shown by his teams by choosing to use their knowledge to make hydroalcoholic gel, initially for caregivers and which ended up on stalls around the world.
It is a collective success of the basin because without the transporters and the machining company, we could not have done much.

The Vichy plant looks to the future
The director then spoke at length about the factory of tomorrow and sustainable development with, among other things, more ecological sunscreen tubes or the fact that the Vichy factory is trying to reduce its carbon footprint as much as possible.
“This factory is a confectionery. We do things that are fun,” concluded this passionate … and fascinating manager.
