Jean Reno lives her American dream and lives in New York for part of the year. The 75-year-old actor spoke about his daily life in the city that never sleeps.
Jean Reno is a juggernaut of French cinema… but not only that! The actor has proven his talent several times in American films such as The Doormande Ryūhei Kitamura, ou The Last Face, by Sean Penn. And the actor lives the American dream to the end since he lives part of the year in New York.
Jean Reno lives in New York…and that’s where he met his wife
It was in the Big Apple that Jean Reno met the woman who is today his wife, the Franco-British model Zofia Borucka, with whom he had his two youngest children, Ciela, 15, and Dean, 13. . “I first met her in New York when she was a model for Ralph Lauren. At the time, nothing happened: she was married and so was I. We just hit it off. And fourteen years later, we met again. I was turning The pink Panther At New York. And then, we never left each other. As Claude Nougaro said, she is ‘the woman of my death'”, he confided to Gala.
Why doesn’t Jean Reno live in Los Angeles? “I never could have”
But why did the 75-year-old actor choose to reside in the city that never sleeps when he could have settled in sunny Los Angeles, surrounded by the biggest American stars and his dear friend Laeticia Hallyday? “New York is not the United States, it is a city apart. It is a bridgehead of Europe. 97,000 French people are settled there. My neighbors are Marc Levy and Robert De Niro”, he explained.
Furthermore, Jean Reno finds the atmosphere eminently warmer in New York: “I could never have lived in Los Angeles. I recently spoke about it to Laeticia Hallyday. This city is the apology of solitude. In Manhattan, I know my neighbors, the doorman greets me“. Finally, he appreciates the cultural aspect of the city: “When you go to MoMa, the museum of modern art, you realize that they are not only Americans, but very open to others cultures“.
Jean Reno: his corner of paradise in the south of France
The rest of the time, the cinema giant has resided for 35 years in the south of France, in Les Baux-de-Provence. This is where he got married in 2006 and he also hopes this will be his final resting place. In 2020, he even began serving on the city’s municipal council.
In the future, Jean Reno wants to spend more time in his little corner of paradise. Near Galahe confided: “I hope that I will work less and that I will be able to stay longer in my South of France: Les Baux-de-Provence. My kids will have grown up“.
