Jean-Michel Jard releases soundtrack for Sebastiao Salgado’s upcoming exhibition – Entertainment

Electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jard has recorded a 52-minute musical accompaniment for the famous photographer and filmmaker Sebastiao Salgado’s exhibition “Amazônia”, which will open at the Paris Philharmonic on May 20.

The Amazônia is a comprehensive exhibition focusing on the Brazilian Amazon and includes more than 200 photographs and films of Salgado, including feedback from indigenous peoples on the need to preserve their culture and environment.

In six years, Salgado toured the Amazon region, capturing forests, rivers, mountains, locals and most of the works will be on public display for the first time. The exhibition invites you to watch, listen and think about the future of biodiversity and the place of people in the world. The musical accompaniment of Jean Michel Jean is a symphonic world that will introduce the visitors of the exhibition to the sounds of the forest, using a mixture of electronic and orchestral instruments with other real sounds of nature.

“I wanted to avoid an ethnomusicological approach or background music. There is a strong dimension of nomadism in the Amazon forest – moving from one place to another, from darkness to light, from gentle silence to hidden threats, moving forward leaving reality to allow the ritual and dreams to subside. I built this music as an accessory box made up of various sound objects, like wandering through organic, natural, ethnic, orchestral and electronic elements that would pass us only like in the forest we would go through and leave behind behind, temporary remnants from time and space without end, ”comments Jean Michel Jean.
