The Minister of National Education said he hoped this Wednesday on RTL that a simplification of the health protocol at school will be decided on Friday at a defense council.
Jean-Michel Blanquer claims to be “the first to want it”.
Asked whether the very strict protocol that currently governs schools and prevents all students from returning to school would be lightened, the minister replied: “We will probably do it.” “I am the first to wish it, I ask only that,” he said. “There will be a defense council on Friday under the authority of the President of the Republic, it is on this day that we will be able to take, I hope, the alleviation measures which will be applied in June “, perhaps as early as next week. “This is just a hypothesis,” he insisted.
Students back to school (but not all)
If a reduction is decided, it will mainly concern “a point of the health protocol”: the rule of 15 students maximum per class in primary, he said. Sunday the President of the Scientific Council, Jean-François Delfraissy, had declared that the sanitary rules for children at school could be alleviated by the end of June, in particular for “meals, playtime or sport”.
Jean-Michel Blanquer also released the latest figures on the recovery: he estimates “more than 50%” the proportion of students who have been able to return to school – but sometimes only one day a week. In secondary school, “30% of middle school students” took over, most often partially. “The situation is improving step by step,” he said.
Tribute to teachers
Also questioned on dropout teachers pointed out in recent days in some media and on social networks, the minister first paid tribute to “what the teachers did during the confinement”.
“Of course, there are people who have not quite lived up to their duty,” he added, without giving further details. “The real problem is when there is nothing, no presence, no telework,” the minister said, referring to possible sanctions.
