Following the referral to the Constitutional Council by majority deputies, including Jean-François ELIAOU, a number of people expressed their anger and their incomprehension. The deputy first wishes to recall that he is deeply attached to Hérault and Occitan traditions, including the Occitan language.

Thus, during his mandate, he went to meet many actors in our territory and fights, alongside them, for the preservation, promotion, and perpetuation of the authenticity of our beautiful region, including the language Occitan is one of the jewels. This is why the deputy had initially decided to vote in favor of the bill brought by deputy Molac.
However, in the revised version of the Senate, an amendment seeks to make it compulsory for tuition fees to be borne by municipalities that do not have a private language school in their territory.
The deputy considers that there is no reason for the budget of a municipality to finance the education of children in a private school located outside their territory, because this provision weakens both the finances of the municipality and the balance schools in rural areas, where the risk of class or even school closure is high.
In order to ensure the constitutionality of this measure and only this one, Jean-François Eliaou and several of his colleagues therefore lodged an appeal with the Constitutional Council, in full transparency and with respect for democratic and parliamentary principles.
