The muscles from Brussels are coming back. Jean-Claude van Damme starred in the 1994 film Street Fighter, appearing as Guile. Because of her, he turned down a role in another adaptation of the famous action movie. Otherwise, he could appear as Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat from 1995. This character was inspired by him. But now he will return to this role through the new fighting game Mortal Kombat 1, as we have known for some time. Johnny Cage will look and talk like van Damme in one version. But until now we haven’t had the chance to see him in the game. That has changed now.
Mortal Kombat author Ed Boon was a guest on First We Feast and van Damme makes a few moments during the interview. Said part starts at 5:52. It’s just a small fragment, but luckily it didn’t just stay with him. According to Boon, the entire Mortal Kombat series was born out of a failed attempt to create a Van Damme: The Arcade Game title for Midway. This idea never got off the ground. Boon isn’t even sure if van Damme’s people actually told him about the offer. Over the years, however, the authors tried to contact the famous star of the nineties several more times, and now it finally came out. Boon himself says that this is the moment when the circle came full circle.

Van Damme is wearing essentially the same outfit that Johnny Cage wore in the very first game from 1992. He won’t be the only celebrity in the new game though. Also appearing are Megan Fox as Nitara, John Cena as Peacemaker, Antony Starr as Homelander and JK Simmons as Omni-Man.
Van Damme as Johnny Cage will be part of the DLC Kombat Pack on release day. The game will hit the market on September 19. You can start playing five days earlier if you buy the premium edition. It also includes the first Kombat Pack with the JCVD skin.
