Jean Castex returns to the Court of Auditors and will ensure three new activities including one for the private sector

The former Prime Minister will first return to the Court of Auditors and then return to public life by taking on two new functions in the service of transport infrastructure and the fight against exclusion. But he will also ensure a third activity, “punctual”, with a private company this time.

Six weeks after leaving Matignon and announcing that he would not resume his term as mayor, Jean Castex has (almost) finished with his summer break. From the end of this month of August, he will first of all return to the Court of Auditors, his original body which he calls “My house”. According to his close entourage, “specific assignments” entrusted to it by Pierre Moscovici, the first president of the Court of Auditors. In the process, Jean Castex will wear three other caps for, as he has repeated in recent weeks, “continue to be useful to the country” out of national politics.

Fight against exclusion and transport

These activities concern “social issues that are close to his heart and embrace three areas of general interest”, still insists his entourage. Jean Castex will take over the presidency, on a voluntary basis, of FACE, the Foundation Acting against exclusion, which works to integrate people in difficulty, and which was initiated by Martine Aubry in 1993. He is integrated into the board of directors in as a “qualified person”. For the record, he will rub shoulders with five ministers (or their representatives): Interior, Labour, Health, Territorial Cohesion and Housing, ex-officio members of FACE.

Unsurprisingly for anyone familiar with his passion for transport in general, the train in particular, and regional planning, the former Prime Minister accepted the proposal made to him by the government on July 7th. From the start of the school year, he will chair the board of directors of the powerful AFITF, the Agency for financing transport infrastructures in France. The AFITF, which therefore coordinates the financing of major national mobility projects, has a budget of 3.66 billion euros for this year 2022. For the LGVs, for example, which concern the Occitanie Region twice via the Perpignan-Montpellier and Toulouse-Bordeaux high-speed lines, the Agency has 290 million euros available for 2022. Auditioned this Wednesday, July 27 by the deputies, Jean Castex reaffirmed his attachment to high-speed projects.

The ecological transition in the private sector for 1,500 euros per month

Finally, Jean Castex will integrate the field of ecological transition via a private company, Idverde, which he “will accompany in a very punctual way”. Idverde (8,000 employees) specializes in greening urban spaces, public and private green spaces, and is considered the “French and European leader in landscaping companies”.

Jean Castex will intervene precisely on a “innovative project for the greening of urban spaces”. This is an environmental compensation project through the grouping of green spaces into a “compensation pool”. For this activity announced as “very partial”the former Prime Minister will be paid by Idverde to the tune of around 1,500 euros a month.
