Jean Boutier and Stéphane Mourlane (dir.) – Marseille l’Italienne

Gateway to France, Marseille has naturally developed strong links with the Italian peninsula since the Middle Ages. It is this passionate relationship, made up of commercial and artistic exchanges, political influences and above all personal stories, which is told here. Beyond the cliché of the Italian immigrant, vector of all fantasies, reveals the daily reality of a long-standing Italian presence, raising the question of a specific Marseille “Italianness”.

The book was prepared for the exhibition “Marseille l’Italienne” which will be held in September-October 2021 at the Municipal Archives of Marseille, under the curatorship of Stéphane Mourlane (University of Aix-Marseille), Jean Boutier (Center Norbert Elias / EHESS) and Sylvie Clair (Archives de Marseille).

With contributions from Isabelle Aillaud, Simone Balossino, Laurent Bocquillon, Sylvain Borzillo, Annastella Carrino, Noëlle Colombié, Xavier Daumalin, Paul Dietschy, Vincent Di Roma, Linda Guerry, Audéric Maret, Robert Mencherini, Robert Palmaccio, Caroline Pane, Céline Regnard , Léa Renucci, Anne Richier, Émilie Roffidal, CNRS, Matteo Sanfilippo, Francesca Sirna.
