Jean-Bernard and Jacqueline Mellinger met in Monneren, during the patronal feast ball, one of the only leisure activities for young people in the rural sector at the time.

The lovers united in Rurange-lès-Thionville on May 26, 1973, then settled in their first home, rue Kennedy in Rurange. It was in 2003 that they moved into their current home, still in Rurange. From their union were born two children, Bénédicte in 1974 and Laurent in 1978. A grandson, Julien, then came to enlarge the family.

Jean-Bernard Mellinger was born on September 11, 1951, in Thionville, and went to attend the municipal school in Metzeresche, the village where he spent his childhood. After the elementary cycle, he enters an apprenticeship at La Briquerie de Thionville, and comes out with his CAP and the certificate of journeyman in locksmithing. Comes the hour of the military service, it will pass its classes with the regiment of mechanical infantry of Mutzig in Alsace, to finish its service with the camp of Cattenom. Returning to civilian life, he joined the Scheltich company until the early 1990s. It was at this time that he was hired as a communal worker in Rurange, where he also performed the duties of rural guard, until his retirement in 2015, being able to indulge in his favorite pastime, hunting. He was also a municipal councilor in the commune.

Jacqueline Rouge was born on August 28, 1951 in Metz. It was in her home village, Rurange-lès-Thionville, that she spent all her childhood and her school period in elementary school. At the end of her Certificate of Primary Studies, she joined the housekeeping school of Guénange. After a time spent in this school, she was employed as a family helper on the parental farm, then became a stay-at-home mother at the birth of her first child.
