The two heads of diplomacy welcomed the strong friendship that has united the two peoples for many, many years. The ministers discussed the prospects for developing bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of green and sustainable finance and financial technology.
The ministers took stock of the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic to see the importance of promoting multilateral cooperation to overcome this challenge that affects all humanity.
The ministers took stock of the tragic situation in Myanmar, following the military coup of February 1, which Minister Asselborn condemned in the strongest terms. Jean Asselborn stressed that this coup d’etat is an unacceptable attempt to overturn by force the result of the last general elections which reflect the will of the Burmese people, and thus to put an end to the democratic transition in the country and the sharing of the power between civilians and soldiers, in defiance of the wishes of the Burmese population. Minister Don Pramudwinai informed his Luxembourg counterpart of the ongoing mediation efforts by ASEAN and its regional partners, for a return to democracy, respect for human rights and good governance in Myanmar.
During the exchange, Minister Asselborn expressed his concern and that of the European Union over the growing use in Thailand of repression against young demonstrators and their pre-trial detention for having used their right. freedom of expression.
