Despite the fact that the former Attorney General, Jean Alain Rodríguez asked the press to be present at the hearing on the coercion measure to be held in the Medusa case, the legal representation of the former official recommended that he reverse and now prefers that the process takes place behind closed doors.
This is how Gustavo Biaggi Pumarol made it known in the program The day.Rodríguez’s lawyer indicated that although his client “has not changed his mind,” he had reflected on the presence of the media at the hearing on the recommendation of their representatives, now requiring that he be absent.
“An open trial makes a media issue and the truth does not necessarily come out through it. The morbid comes out a lot, a lot of information for discussion ”, he explained.
Biaggi Pumarol explained that they suggested that Rodríguez “change his perception” about the transmission of the measure through the media, carrying out a closed trial, and that he allow them to report on the issues that arose upon leaving the trial.
The lawyer also criticized that in the request for a measure of coercion, Rodríguez is treated as an “accused” when no facts have yet been charged.
“It is a request for a measure on someone who has not been given that category,” he stressed.
Through two radio programs on June 29, Jean Alain Rodríguez asked the media not to depart from the process against him and the other defendants in the corruption case during his tenure as head of the Attorney General’s Office, this just a few hours after the authorities carried out several simultaneous raids in Santo Domingo, La Romana and Jarabacoa.
Later, Rodríguez went to the Attorney General’s Office, he said, on a voluntary basis, where he was under arrest.
The Public Ministry requested preventive detention for all those involved in Operation Medusa, including Rodríguez, as well as requested the court to declare the complexity of the case.
In addition to Rodríguez, several of his collaborators in the PGR are implicated in the case: Miguel José Moya, Rafael Antonio Mercede Marte, Alfredo Alexander Solano Augusto, Rafael Stefano Canó Sacco, Javier Alejandro Forteza Ibarra, Jonnathan Josel Rodríguez Imbert, Jenny Marte Peña and Altagracia Guillén Footwear.
The group of defendants is investigated for alleged crimes of coalition of officials, prevarication, association of criminals, fraud against the State, money laundering, as well as technological crimes
The hearing to learn about the measures of coercion against the former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez will be held next Thursday, the 8th, at 10 in the morning.
