JazzPote Says Goodbye: Reflections on 20 Years of Music and Memories in Thionville

End clap! After twenty years of performances, music, aperitifs, JazzPote has decided to put itself on the mute permanently. The association, created by Christian Schott, cut the sound on Saturday evening, at the end of its 18th festival which was held in Thionville. “We end in style. We attracted three times more spectators than in 2022, I think it’s the effect of the announcement: come on, it’s the last one, but also the rather exceptional programming. »

On Friday, trumpet player Erik Truffaz brought more than 350 people. “We came from Germany, Luxembourg, Paris too. Many jazz lovers were there. Tuesday, on the occasion of the anniversary evening in free access, 400 curious people stormed the theater. “For the other dates, we have nothing to be ashamed of, it’s a return to pre-Covid attendance. »

Yet jazz has its place

Faced with such enthusiasm, many have wondered: “But why stop? asked a young woman on Saturday noon. “We don’t stop for financial reasons or for lack of public, we made the decision to stop because there was no one to take up the torch. We don’t want to do too much editing and not have enough energy. Because JazzPote is not just an annual festival. There are concerts in Nilvange, Longuyon, Metz, Manom… “We happened to do up to forty dates in one year! »

Saturday, during the jazz aperitif, behind the scenes there was a blues hit in the air. “From JazzPote, there will remain the anecdotes, the memories but above all the friends. We were a core to carry this event between Nicole, Yolande, Roger, Bubu, Fabrice, Marie-Christine… We will meet to tidy up, take stock and organize a few more concerts between now and the end of the year and we will see if we dissolve or if we put the association to sleep. »

But one thing is certain, jazz has its place in Thionville.
