– We are devastated that Pharaoh Sanders is dead. He died peacefully, surrounded by loving family and friends in Los Angeles, record company Luaka Bop said in a statement Saturday.
Sanders played with John Coltrane in the 1960s and released over 30 albums. Sanders is referred to as a highly inventive late saxophonist. He was a central figure in modern jazz where black musicians in the United States were at the forefront in the 1960s.
