Jayson Tatum equals Larry Bird
Jayson Tatum planted 60 points in his team’s overtime win over Spurs. It equals Larry Bird’s franchise record. He is also the second youngest player in history to reach the 60 point mark:
- 20 years, 145 days – Devin Booker
- 23 years, 58 days – Jayson Tatum
- 23 years, 234 days – Jerry West
He also becomes the third player in history to sign at least 60 points without losing a single ball. The NBA has recorded lost balls since 1977. The other two are Carmelo Anthony (62 points in 2014) and Klay Thompson (60 points in 2016).
He is the first player in Celtics history to sign multiple 50-point games in a single season. He is the only player with Larry Bird to total several 50-point games with Boston. Bird has 4.
The incredible comeback of the Celtics
The Celtics found themselves down 65-33 in the first half against Spurs and at the break the gap of 29 points. they win in overtime 143-140. This is the third biggest comeback in history:
- Utah Jazz – 36 points (novembre 1996)
- Sacramento Kings – 35 points (December 2009)
- Boston Celtics – 32 points (avril 2021)
Only one team recovered more than 29 points at the break. Utah holds the record with 34.
Russell Westbrook gets closer to Oscar Robertson
Russell Westbrook compiled 15 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in the Wizards’ win in Cleveland. He is at 20 triple-doubles in the last 26 games! Never in history has a player totaled so many triple-doubles in 236 games. The record until then was held by Wilt CHamberlain with 18 in 26 games in 1968.
He becomes the second player in history to succeed over a calendar month with 200 rebounds and 200 assists. Oscar Robertson had done so in November 1961 and February 1962.
Now Westbrook has 177 triple-doubles, just 5 to overtake Oscar Robertson and his 181.
Trae Young equals Bob Pettit
Despite the Hawks’ heavy loss, Trae Young scored 32 points against the Sixers. It’s already his 58th game with at least 30 points, which allows him to tie Bob Pettit for most in Hawks history in the first 3 seasons.
Another double-double for DeMar DeRozan
DeMar DeRozan signed 30 points and 14 assists in the loss to the Celtics. This is his 14th game with at least 10 assists this season. Before that ? He had only signed 13 games with at least 10 assists.
