Maryland., Jayden Daniels recovered from an early interception to throw the longest touchdown pass of his young career and rush for 82 yards, and the Washington Commanders turned in their best defensive performance of the season in a 34-13 rout of the Browns. Cleveland on Sunday, with its fourth consecutive victory.
Washington is 4-1 for the first time since 2008. Cleveland lost three in a row to leave its record at 1-4.
Daniels, Brian Robinson Jr., Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols ran wild on the Browns, combining for 211 yards on 31 carries. Robinson scored two touchdowns and McNichols had one in a game that was loaded on one side so the fans began to wave with four minutes left in the third quarter.
The Commanders’ defense contributed to the cause by forcing a Deshaun Watson fumble, in addition to sacking him seven times and limiting their offense to 212 total yards.
Watson was 15 of 28 for 125 yards with a touchdown late to tight end Jordan Akins. He hasn’t thrown for at least 200 yards this season.
Daniels, the second pick in the draft, became the favorite for Offensive Player of the Year, not having the best start after coming in with 82.5% of his passes completed in his first four games. He finished 14 of 25 for 238 yards with one interception, with spectacular 66-yard passes to Terry McLaurin and a 41-yard touchdown pass to Dyami Brown.
Chicago crushes the Panthers
Caleb Williams threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns In his best game of his rookie season in the NFL, DJ Moore caught those two touchdown passes and added 105 yards as a receiver against his former team, and the Chicago Bears beat the Carolina Panthers 36-10 on Sunday.
The Bears (3-2) won their second in a row after two straight losses thanks to the contributions of two pieces they acquired in their trade with Carolina in 2023.
Chicago also made a profit for the second week in a row as D’Andre Swift accumulated 120 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown.
Williams wreaked havoc on Carolina’s defense (1-4), one of the worst in the league. The first overall draft pick completed 20 of 29 passes with no interceptions.
The Bears extended the NFL’s best home winning streak to eight. It is their best streak at Soldier Field since they won 10 in a row between the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
