Jayapura City Health Service to Conduct Mass Screening for TB, HIV/AIDS, Leprosy, and Malaria in 30 Locations

Jayapura (ANTARA) – The Jayapura City Health Service, Papua will soon carry out mass screening for tuberculosis (TB) in the area along with screening for HIV/AIDS, leprosy and malaria.

Head of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (P2PM) Section of the Jayapura City Health Service, Yusnita Pabeno in Jayapura, Wednesday, said that mass screening for TB, HIV/AIDS, leprosy and malaria is planned to be carried out in 30 locations.

“We are currently assessing which locations will be used as inspection centers,” he said.

According to Yusnita, her party has also received input from the community for locations that are vulnerable to these diseases.

“There are already five locations where we will carry out screening and we are still assessing other locations,” he said.

He explained that handling TB in Jayapura City is very easy to intervene because there are only five districts, which if it can be done with the cooperation of all related agencies, then the case can be handled well.

“Because this year we are targeting to find as many as 4,000 TB cases, so we are continuing to work because until December 2023 we have only found 2,000 cases,” he said again.

He added that his party hopes that the implementation of mass TB screening in collaboration with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and malaria can reduce the transmission of these diseases in Jayapura City.

“Because most people in Jayapura City are workers from outside the area who are contracted annually, then return to their area of origin, as do students who come from Jayapura City,” he said.
