Singer Carol King, the band “The Go-Go’s”, as well as multi-instrumentalist and singer Todd Rundgren were also honored to be included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
As always, the ceremony was complemented by special musical performances, in which the main characters of the evening performed together with their idols and younger musicians inspired by their work.
The ceremony was opened by country and pop star Taylor Swift with one of Carol King’s most famous songs – “Will You Love Me Tomorrow”. Its original was released in 1971 and became one of the most popular songs of the decade, with a record selling more than 25 million copies.
One of the first hip-hop music superstars – 80s rapper LL Cool J (pictured) – performed with Eminem and Jennifer Lopez, performing a potpourri of their songs.
Currently, 81-year-old Tina Turner lives in Switzerland and had not attended the ceremony. In a video of thanksgiving, which was broadcast in video format, the singer said that if she is still awarded prizes at this age, then obviously something has been done right.
The symbolic reception of the singer in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was entrusted to the actress Angela Basset, who played Tina Turner in the biographical film “What’s Love Got To Do With It” (1993). In honor of the pop music legend, the duo – Keith Erban and singer HER – performed the song “It’s Only Love”, which Turner once sang in a duet with Brian Adams. Adams was unable to attend the ceremony due to a positive Covid-19 diagnosis. The event also featured hits “What’s Love Got To Do With It” performed by country musician Mickey Gaithon, but one of Turner’s first popular songs “River Deep, Mountain High” was sung this time by Kristina Aguilera.

Jay-Z, on the other hand, had a special honor – his welcoming speech was given by former US President Barack Obama and comedian Dave Shapel. Jay-Z and the already mentioned LL Cool J are among the few rap bench artists admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They were preceded by Notorious BIG and Tupak Šakurs.
The group “Foo Fighters” was also admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Its leader, Dave Grols, received this honor for the second time – in 2014, he was admitted to the Hall of Fame as a member of the group “Nirvana”.
The three-song compilation of “Foo Fighters” concluded this year’s ceremony, but the legendary Beatle Paul McCartney also joined the stage.
It has already been reported that last year the ceremony due to the Covid-19 pandemic took place in a virtual format, but this year the event in the arena full of spectators was a return to normalcy.
Musicians and bands whose debut album was released at least 25 years ago are eligible for admission to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
