Milei Readies for Rome: The Argentine President Joins Meloni and Conservatives for Global Forum
Argentine President Javier Milei is set to embark on a whirlwind trip to Rome this week, strengthening his bond with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and aligning himself with a growing network of right-wing leaders across the globe.
Milei will participate in the "Fratelli d’Italia Atreju" forum, hosted by Meloni’s Conservative Party and Reformers of Europe (ECR). Running from December 8th to 15th, the event will unfold at the historic Circus Maximus, bringing together a constellation of conservative thinkers and political figures.
This marks Milei’s fifth meeting with Meloni since assuming the Argentinian presidency, a relationship built on a shared belief in individual freedoms, national sovereignty, and a skepticism of multilateral institutions.
"We have been elected to guide the destinies of our countries," Milei stated after a recent meeting with Meloni in Buenos Aires, " to deal with courage, truth, and openness to the main problems of our countries …"
Milei, known for his unconventional views and fiery rhetoric, has openly criticized what he terms "global agendas" and "Table 2030," often used by critics to refer to international efforts to address climate change and social issues.
Echoing these sentiments, Meloni has positioned Italy as a bulwark against what she perceives as an overreaching European Union and has voiced strong opposition to mass migration.
The Argentinian president’s Rome visit follows his recent declaration of interest in forming a "league of conservative countries” as a counterweight to the United Nations. Milei has suggested the United States, Israel, Italy, and Argentina as the core members of this proposed bloc. He believes this alliance could provide a platform for conservative voices and policies on the global stage.
Milei’s rapid ascent to power and his willingness to openly challenge established norms have captivated international attention, particularly in conservative circles.
Milei will depart for Rome on December 13th and return to Argentina on the evening of December 14th, making this one of his shortest international trips yet.
