Javier Milei Criticized for Hypocrisy in Argentine Sovereignty Claims and Alignment with United States Interests

Javier Milei granted without a single move the unilateral expansion of the Exclusion Zone in the Argentine sea. But now he speaks of the “unwavering claim to sovereignty.” It does not seem that he thought the same when he met furtively in Davos with David Cameron, who a month later made the first visit by a British chancellor to the islands, during which he made humiliating statements for the Argentines and then plundered much of the sea. The reaction of the Milei government was so minimal and late that anyone would think that the move was arranged at that Davos meeting.

Milei has expressed his admiration for the war criminal, Margaret Thatcher, who ordered the murder of 600 Argentines who were outside the theater of operations. Like Thatcher, British conservatives often take advantage of the stupidity of the Argentine right. Cameron, with his bravado from the Malvinas and the usurpation of the sea, tried to divert the attention of the English people from the crisis that that country is suffering due to Brexit and the war in Ukraine.

No matter how much hypocritical speech he makes, Milei does not defend Argentine sovereignty. The United States was an ally of Great Britain in the Malvinas War and accompanied it by providing intelligence and logistics. This president who speaks of “unwavering claim to sovereignty” aligned the country’s foreign policy with that of the United States. The United States economy is in full decline. Milei expels Chinese or Russian investments, but cannot replace them with North American ones.

Since taking office, Milei has received visits from the Secretary of the State Department (Chancellor), Anthony Blinken, from the head of the CIA, William Burns, and twice from the head of the Southern Command of the United States Army, Laura Richardson. At that time, Milei handed over control of the Paraná River to the Army of the Northern power, froze the relationship with China and Russia and ranted against the governments of the region that support the Argentine claim for the Malvinas.

The offensive statements against the presidents of Chile, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia, plus the diplomatic conflict with Venezuela constitute a way of hindering the regional integration process that was developing, partly due to the force of events and partly due to impulses. sporadic actions of some governments. Regional integration is convenient for Argentina. But not to the United States, because it disrupts its unequal relationship with the region. Milei plays as a bishop for North American interests to the detriment of Argentine interests.

The Argentine government rejected the purchase of 30 state-of-the-art zero-kilometer Chinese supersonic fighters in order to acquire 24 North American aircraft that have been flying for more than twenty years, that are not fully equipped and that when purchasing them it must agree not to use them against Great Britain. MIlei did all his homework and so far he hasn’t even been able to get a single dollar of the 15 billion dollars he is begging for from the IMF.

In his speech on Argentine Rights Day for the Malvinas Islands, Milei criticized the political leadership that “did the impossible to tarnish the name of our Armed Forces” and announced a new era of “reconciliation.”

Society is not unhappy with the Armed Forces. Those with whom there is no reconciliation are the genocidaires. It is not only politicians who condemned the genocidaires and those responsible for the defeat in the Malvinas. The Rattenbach commission was made up of two generals, two brigadiers and two admirals. The commission called the war a “military adventure” of the dictatorship, a war for which the Argentine Armed Forces were not prepared. He highlighted numerous cases of heroism and bravery of soldiers. But she was very clear in criticizing the reason for the decision to go to war: “Confusing a circumstantial objective of internal politics (the need to revitalize the process of national reorganization – the dictatorship -) with a feat of legitimate historical vindication and giving “This gave rise to the interpretation that he intended to capitalize on the political gain for himself, in the event of a favorable solution.”

The only impossible reconciliation is with the genocidaires. With the Armed Forces, society has no resentment, unless they defend them and justify the horrors they committed.
