In addition to leading the investigation that keeps Duarte in jail, the public prosecutor’s office was denounced for alleged irregularities in the process against the former state president.

The Tojil organization requested an investigation because the then Attorney General’s Office negotiated with Duarte an abbreviated procedure so that, in exchange for pleading guilty to criminal association and money laundering, the ex-president received a minimum sentence.

On September 26, 2018, Duarte was sentenced to 9 years in prison, the confiscation of his property and a fine. Judgment that remains in challenge pending resolution.
