Javier Coello Trejo, a lawyer who has participated in emblematic cases throughout his career, together with his law firm, filed a complaint against Santiago Nieto Castillo, former head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) and trusted man. of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Also known as the Iron Prosecutor, he was Attorney General of the Republic during the six-year term of José López Portillo. He has countless cases in which he has participated, but recently he is known for being in charge of a series of investigations that They involve relevant figures from both the previous six-year term and the current one.

Graduated in Law and with proven experience in the administration of justice, Javier Coello Trejo founded his firm Coello Trejo y Abogados in 1984. In his work within the Public Service, he not only worked with José López Portillo, but also did very closely with former president Miguel de la Madrid and Carlos Salinas de Gortari.

During the current six-year term, Javier Coello Trejo has participated, together with his office, in countless cases of great relevance, among which the defense of Emilio Lozoya Austin, former director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), stands out.

Although he has also led his team in the complaints that were filed against the former Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell for his management of the Covid-19 pandemic.

And recently against Santiago Nieto Castillo, former head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) of the Ministry of Finance and current office manager of the Attorney General’s Office of the state of Hidalgo.

It was in June 2020 when Javier Coello Trejo reported that by mutual agreement with Emilio Lozoya, he would leave his defense, this after the former federal official agreed to be extradited to Mexico from Spain.

Lozoya Austin was required in Mexico to be tried for the sale of the Agronitrogenados plant at overcost and the case of alleged bribery as part of the Odebrecht case.

Until October of this year, Javier Coello Trejo assured that at least eight complaints had been filed against Hugo López-Gatell, former Undersecretary of Health, for his mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As part of these complaints, Coello Trejo offered to provide legal assistance to relatives of people who lost their lives as a result of the pandemic.
