Jastrzębski Węgiel for the fourth time! Huge emotions in the PlusLiga final

The team from Jastrzębie started the match better, leading 10:6 after an ace by Norbert Huber. The rivals were also well-disposed in the service field, they quickly made contact (11:10), but the middle part of the set belonged to the hosts. Jastrzębski Węgiel’s volleyball players were more effective in attack, looked good in blocking and were able to surprise their opponents with their serve – after Tomasz Fornal’s ace the score was 19:13. The guests started fighting and reduced the difference to three points (21:18), but the Jastrzębie team calmly took the advantage. Jurii Gladyr closed the set with a service ace (25:19).

The second part was a strong opening for the hosts (6:1), who later increased their advantage (12:5). After a nervous introduction, the Jurassic Knights returned to the game on Mateusz Bieniek’s serves and made contact (12:11). Jastrzębie still jumped ahead (18:14), but in the next actions their game fell apart. The guests equalized after an ace by Bartosz Kwolek (20:20), and the series of serves by the Zawiercie host continued. The next point service was already worth the set point (20:24), and the missing point resulted in a mistake by the hosts (21:25).

The beginning of the third set brought equal competition between both teams (9:9). Later, the team from Jastrzębie gained the advantage (13:10, 18:14). The visitors made up for the loss after an effective attack by Karol Butryn (21:21). The end brought a lot of emotions, but the fatigue of the volleyball players from both teams was becoming more and more visible. The set was decided by two actions from 23:23. First, the Zawiercie team missed the serve, then after a while they made a mistake in the attack and the hosts won 25:23.

The successful ending of the third set gave the Jastrzębie team a boost at the beginning of the next set. The hosts quickly gained a few points in advance and after an effective attack by Tomasz Fornal, they led 8:4. In the middle part of the set they maintained a clear advantage (15:9) and were confidently heading for victory. Jean Patry, beating the opponents’ block, won the match ball (24:17), and after the Zawiercie team’s throw-out attack, it became clear that Jastrzębski Węgiel defended the title of Polish champion (25:18).

Volleyball players from Jastrzębie-Zdrój won the Polish championship for the fourth time in history. Previously, they won in 2004, 2021 and 2023. Jastrzębski Węgiel has not finished the season yet – it advanced to the Champions League final, where it will play against Itas Trentino on May 5.

Aluron CMC Warta played in the final for the first time in history; Zawiercie’s biggest success so far was the bronze medal won in 2022. Coach Michał Winiarski’s players won the Polish Cup this season.
