Jason Aldean’s Controversial Song “Try That in a Small Town”: Dividing America and Connecting with Boston Strong

After the movie Sound of freedom, it’s Jason Aldean’s turn to divide America with his song Try That in a Small Town

Country singer Jason Aldean caused an uproar with his new song and video, Try That in a Small Town (Try this in a small town), which shows footage of riots, burning American flags, and beating police.

On Jason’s side

Jason Aldean just made a controversial new statement in an attempt to associate his song with the 2013 Boston Marathon double bombing. During his Saturday night concert at the Mansfield Xfinity Center, he explained to the audience how the Boston Marathon bombings were connected to his song.

Aldean claimed the Boston showgoers were kindred spirits. Furthermore, he claimed that they had first-hand knowledge of the brutality he was referring to, which explains why they understand the meaning of the song’s lyrics. Additionally, he noted that Bostonians defended their city by chanting the phrase “Boston Strong.”

Country Music Television (CMT) announced about two weeks ago that it would no longer broadcast Try That In a Small Town in response to criticism of Jason Aldean’s music video, whose lyrics some said glorified gun violence and expressed supposedly racist beliefs. The channel took this step before the “CMT boycott” trend escalated.

The clip, shot outside the Tennessee courthouse where a black man was murdered by a mob in 1927, and the song’s “very chilling lyrics” drew backlash. The song was originally released in May, but it has recently climbed the charts on a number of platforms. In anticipation of the release of his next album, Jason Aldean posted a promotional video for this song on social media on July 14.

The lyrics continue: “See how far you go on the road / Around here we take care of our own / You cross that line, it won’t take long / For you to find out, I recommend you don’t /try this in a small town”.
