After he was diagnosed with the coronavirus in March 2020, Jason Kelk (49) from Leeds in England has fought for his life.
A match he now, after 14 months, had to give lost.
It is Sky News who today writes that the 49-year-old, as they also describe the person in the country, who has been fighting the coronavirus for the longest time, is dead.
Have had corona for 13 months
– Brave
Kelk was transferred from the hospital to a hospice on Friday morning and died with his family gathered around him.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I have to share the sad news that Jason passed away peacefully at 12.40”, his wife, Sue Kelk, writes in a post on Facebook.
To Sky News, she further describes her husband as brave because “he did not want to live like this anymore”.
– He was my soulmate. We were like opposite sides of the same coin – different, but united, she tells the newspaper.
Deterioration
For more than a year, Kelk was admitted to the intensive care unit at St James’ Hospital in Leeds. At worst, he was bedridden for ten straight months, before he in April managed to go for a short walk with a walker.
In May, Kelk experienced new advances, and improved considerably.
The 49-year-old’s form then became so good that his wife began to plan his return home.
But then came the relapse.
Sent home from the hospital – dead
She then stated that she feared that her husband had given up, and pointed out that he, among other things, was constantly going in and out of consciousness.
– He is a lot more confused now, and has fainted and lost consciousness on several occasions, she said, adding:
– I do not think he has faith in himself anymore. It seems he has given up. It’s really tough.
